Because You Are a Loving Mother

Because you are
A "loving" mother
I know there are times
When you may feel
That you could have done more for me …
But you did more than enough

You tended to me
When I was ill
You spent time with me
You gave me proper guidance
You went out of your way
To make sure
That I experienced love

Because you are a "loving" mother
I know there are times
When you may feel
That you have failed me …
But you groomed me to be quite successful

You gave me a sense of discipline
You gave me character and morality
You gave me insights so powerful
That the barriers before me
Will not be able to stand

Thank-you mother
And may God bless you
And keep you in His favor

Christmas

My Son …

As we enter into another Christmas season,
my spirit is saddened
because there are so many things
that I want to give to you —
not material things in particular,
but things that couldn't fit
under your Christmas tree.

Like
Words of encouragement
When you are down
And wisdom to light your pathways
Smiles to assure you
that you are worthy and special
and hugs to shield you
from your own insecurities …

If I could wrap my love for you
into one package,
there are no Christmas trees on this earth
that would be large enough
for me to place it under.

I am proud of you, Son,
and there is not a day that goes by
where I don't think of you
and the joy
that your birth
has brought to my life.

On This Valentine's Day …

I honor the blessing
of having you
in such an intimate
part of my life.

There is nothing
that makes my life complete
on this Valentine's Day …
my heart is filled
with the contentment of knowing
that in spite of the bars
that surround me,
in spite of the chains
that bind me,
in spite of the distance between us,
you will always be there for me.

Of all of the valentines
on this earth,
none
is capable of wearing your crown.

and take comfort in knowing

to match the space
that I have taken
to support how special you are.

I love you,
and no expensive evening dress
or mink coat
can cover you with
the passion I have in store for you.

No diamonds in any store
can shine
like the spirit
I used to love you
and cherish you.
